Secondary

Welcome to the Secondary Phase

At William Hulme’s we are very aware that we are developing the young people who will shape the future of this country. As such we seek to develop the skills, knowledge and talents of each individual student, offering a broad education which provides opportunities and challenges that foster learning both within and beyond the classroom.

WHGS is committed to ensuring that all students, irrespective of who they are or what needs they may have, master the knowledge, understanding and skills to be successful. We judge every moment of learning as precious and so our lessons are expertly planned and taught by specialist teachers who aim to maximise every minute and encourage everyone to work to the best of their ability.

To this end, we provide a broad and balanced curriculum, both inside and outside of the classroom. Our curriculum is designed to meet the high aspirations of our learners and to support everyone to sustain the behaviour for learning habits that ensure that teachers can teach, and students can learn. To this end, we have systems in place that build upon our values of Ambition, Compassion and Respect and give everyone in our learning community the greatest chance of success.

Teaching and learning at William Hulme’s not only supports the students in the pursuit of academic excellence within the classroom, but also fosters the ongoing development of independent learning. Effective collaboration with teachers, peers and parents ensures that students take responsibility for their own learning and develop a steadfast work ethic which leads to success both in the classroom and beyond.

Alongside their academic studies, students at WHGS are given a huge range of opportunities to participate in activities beyond the classroom. From clubs and societies, to teams, casts and musical ensembles, there is something to interest and motivate every student. Students are encouraged to contribute actively to the school and the wider community and take on leadership roles.

The school provides comprehensive support, working with external partners to ensure all students have a wealth of opportunities for personal development, with a focus on nurturing positive behaviours and attitudes to learning.

The school prides itself on building a culture of mutual respect with students and at the core of this work is the school's Respect Charter, Compassion Charter and Ambition Charter. These Charters are living and breathing documents that shape positive conversations, relationships, values and attitudes at the school.

I am incredibly proud of the history, legacy and diversity of WHGS and we are committed to the nurturing of talent, the pursuit of learning and to foster in students a life long love of learning. We care greatly about the students in our care and we will do what we can to ensure they live happy, succesful and responsible lives.
