Thursday 7 March 2024
Last week we celebrated Literacy Week with a host of events, activities and competitions across the Primary and Secondary Phase, focusing on inspiring a love of reading.
Our Primary children had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day, with the Reading Ambassadors introducing the day in an assembly, sharing the theme: Reading Your Way!
KS2 children then took part in an online interactive quiz and enjoyed hearing from football stars and authors. The children then practised their story-telling skills, thinking of different ways to engage their audience.
In the afternoon, KS1 and Year 3 got creative, making their favourite book characters out of potatoes, whilst Year 4, 5 and 6 created story sacks and spoons to gift to the EYFS children to help them retell their favoured picture books.
It was clear to see the love of reading shining throughout all of the Primary Phase!
Year 9 students were visited by author, Diana Anyakwo, on Tuesday. Diana gave a fantastic talk about her book, 'My Life As A Chameleon', on becoming an author, her family and growing up in Moss Side and Lagos.
Year 7 students were also treated to an author visit on Friday. They were visited by the author of 'Quiet Storm,' Kimberly Whittam. Kimberly gave a fantastic, interactive talk to our Year 7's, not only about becoming an author but also about achieving your dreams and gaining confidence.
On Thursday, the Secondary Phase also celebrated World Book Day and students got to join in with the 'Guess The Character Competition', as teachers came to school dressed as their favourite book characters. There were quizzes and competitions in the Library at break and lunch, with many students winning tokens for our book vending machines, as well as sweet treats.
