Year 11 Cold War Study Day

On Monday, a group of our Year 11 History students attended a 'Cold War Study Day', hosted by the University of Manchester at Jodrell Bank Centre in Cheshire.

Y12 US Civil Rights Workshop

On Friday 12 January, our Y12 History and Politics students attended a workshop on US Civil Rights and Political Ideas in the 1960s at the University of Manchester. This consisted of a seminar in the morning, delivered by Dr Andrew Fearnley, entitled 'A Complex King: Martin Luther King Jr, 1963-68.

Y10 Boys Football - Greater Manchester Cup

Our Year 10 Boys Football Team played in the Greater Manchester Cup on Thursday 11 January.  The game was played at Manchester Metropolitan University, Platt Lane Complex, due to poor conditions at WHGS.  Standish High from Wigan were the opponents.

WHGS Winter Showcase

On Tuesday 19 December, the Music Department hosted a wonderful concert in the Great Hall to a very supportive audience of parents, students, friends and staff.

Christmas in the Primary Phase

Christmas in the Primary Phase has been a very festive occasion this year. 

We’ve had many exciting events, including the pantomime, the Christmas fair, Christmas lunch and, of course, the WHGS famous chocolate dash.

Henshaws Visit

On Tuesday 12 December, WHGS welcomed friends from Henshaws who joined us to celebrate the festive period with a buffet, brilliant conversation and music.

Choir Performance at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital

On Wednesday 6 December, members of the school choir were fortunate to have the opportunity to perform at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. Performing in the main atrium, our students entertained both staff and patients, receiving a very warm welcome.

Y8/Y9 Team Mcr Inspire Rugby Ambassadors

On Thursday 30 November, eight boys from Year 8 and Year 9 were chosen to represent William Hulme's Grammar School as Rugby Ambassadors for the TeamMCR Inspire Primary Tag Rugby Finals at the Platt Lane Sports Complex.

Year 9 Masterchef Competition

On Tuesday 28 November, the Food & Nutrition Department held the Year 9 Masterchef Competition.  We had pupils representing all the Houses making some very tasty dishes. 

Y11 Gateways

On Tuesday 31 October, a group of our Year 11 students attended “The Skills for Success” day on their Gateways visit to the University of Manchester.

KS4 Masterchef Competition

On Tuesday this week, the Food & Nutrition Department held the Seniors Interhouse Masterchef Competition. We had a full complement of entries from Years 10, 11, 12 and 13, making for a very busy and exciting atmosphere in the food room.

KS4 Indoor Cricket

Our KS4 Indoor Cricket team played The Dean Trust on Tuesday.  The game, as always, was frenetic with the ball flying around all over the place.  Everyone had their turn to bat and bowl.

Preparing for School Street Events

Ahead of our upcoming road closure days on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 November 2023, where roads leading up to WHGS (Spring Bridge Road, Waltham Road, Highbury Road and Gildridge Road) will be closed to motor vehicles between 8.00am-9.00am and 2.30pm-3:30pm, new banners have now been displayed reminding parents, carers, staff and our local residents to switch off their engines whilst waiting outside WHGS.

Black History Month

The month of October was a great one for WHGS, as different activities took place across the whole school for Black History Month.
