A group of our Year 12 students recently embraced adventure and impact in Zanzibar, with the Turing Scheme’s “Zanzibar Ecology and Conservation”!

Just as the general election has been announced, Labour MP for Manchester Rusholme started his election campaign by visiting WHGS Sixth Form.

The Manchester based company, Watercycle Technologies, ran a fun interactive session for our Science Club this week, to discuss their groundbreaking work on membrane based lithium extraction.

One of our Year 8 students, Adam, showed great creativity, enthusiasm and work ethic to create an 'eggsellent' Novelty Egg Cup design on TinkerCad.

This week the Food & Nutrition Department held the Year 7 MasterChef Competition. We had lots of enthusiastic Year 7 pupils making some very tasty and skilful dishes. 

On Tuesday 23 April, we welcomed friends from Henshaws who joined us for conversation and music.

On Thursday 18 April, a group of our Year 8 students participated in the Gateways visit to the University of Manchester. They were joined by other schools, also participating in the event.

The Primary Phase had a fantastic end to the Spring Term with a multi faith party day.

In February and late March, Year 5 went on two Forest School trips to 'The Hive' in Bolton.

Each half term, a celebration is held for every child who demonstrates all three of our school values; Ambition, Respect and Compassion, and receives a postcard for each, from their teacher over the half term.

For four weeks of this term, a group of Year 7 students participated in after-school Japanese sessions, in a programme called Languages XP, run by the University of Manchester. 

On Tuesday 26 March, Year 6 were lucky enough to visit the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.

It was great to celebrate the diversity at WHGS during our WOW Culture Day on Thursday 21 March.

This term, Year 1 visited the Gita Bhavan Hindu Temple to understand why this place is sacred to Hindus.

On Tuesday 19, Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 March, Performing Arts students took to the Great Hall stage to showcase their version of 'Annie Jnr'. 

In February, ten of our Year 12 students travelled to Zambia to take part in a Sports Coaching Programme, as part of the government’s Turing scheme, which promotes international relations between schools.

For National Careers Week (4-9 March), we celebrated with a range of exciting activities to showcase the exciting world of work. Subject teachers also highlighted the career opportunities within their subject areas, so that students could get an insight into the different career paths available to them.

Last week we celebrated Literacy Week with a host of events, activities and competitions across the Primary and Secondary Phase, focusing on inspiring a love of reading.  

Both Year 4 classes have enjoyed their Forest School trips to Delamere Forest this half term. The children loved this experience and were excited to visit a new forest this year!

On Wednesday 28 February, a group of Year 9 students participated in the Gateways visit to the University of Manchester.
