Friday 13 October 2023
On Friday 13 October, Sixth Form students from across our History and Politics courses attended a Conference hosted by the British Association of American Studies (BAAS) and the University of Manchester.
Students travelled into Manchester city centre alongside other Sixth Form Colleges from across the North of England, to hear a series of seminars from world-leading academics.
The focus of the day was ‘Modern US History and Politics’, which included a lecture on the Supreme Court and how it has changed since its creation by the Founding Fathers, as well as a key lecture on Civil Rights in the US since 1980, delivered by Dr Andrew Fearnely from the University of Manchester.
The day closed with a roundtable discussion in which all four speakers could answer questions from the audience, with some fantastic questions coming from our Y13 students, Amal and Salma.
