Last week, we proudly celebrated Empathy Week.
In the Primary Phase, we officially introduced our 'We Care' boxes — a practical tool to help children express empathy and support one another.
Each class now has a new classroom role: the Care Monitor. This special responsibility is given to a student whose job is to notice when classmates are feeling upset and to support them using breathing techniques and other helpful resources from the 'We Care' box.
Staff were also on the lookout for students showing kindness and compassion toward others — and we were not disappointed! It was heartwarming to see so many of our children demonstrating empathy in their daily interactions. Those who were spotted showing compassion received one of our school values postcards as a special recognition.
In the Secondary Phase, our Senior Leaders have been issuing Empathy Cards to students who have demonstrated kindness, understanding, and compassion toward others.
Empathy is about putting yourself in someone else’s shoes: Understanding and sharing their feelings, even if you haven’t experienced the same thing. It can be as simple as checking in on a friend, including someone who feels left out, listening attentively, or showing kindness even in disagreement.
Keep being kind, WHGS!
