Tuesday 19 December 2023
On Tuesday 19 December, the Music Department hosted a wonderful concert in the Great Hall to a very supportive audience of parents, students, friends and staff.
The evening began with an array of acts, including the Lower School and Senior Steel Bands, Rocks Groups, Ukes and Co and our new WHGS guitar ensemble who rocked with their own version of 'Wipeout' and 'Merry Jingle'.
After many of our lower school groups had taken centre stage, musicians from KS4 and KS5 had the opportunity to showcase their talent. Edlyn played a fantastic rendition of 'Joy to the World', Yousef a beautiful version of Clair de Lune on the piano and this was followed by Year 10 GCSE and Year 11 Musicians. Year 12 L3 BTEC students performed 'This Christmas', which was one of the highlights of the Show. In turn, KS3 Grace Notes voices joined in the fun and to close the show, the All-Stars Cuban Band played the evening out with 'Rudolf's Mambo', 'Smooth' (featuring Year 12 student, Matthew, playing the guitar solo) and 'Fly as Me'. Finishing with a final collaboration of all musicians and vocalists singing ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ all students helped set the Christmas celebratory mood.
It was commented on by staff and the community alike that the quality and the standard of performance was excellent, thank you to our new sound technician, Mr Conroy, who did an incredible job of making sure the sound was top notch.
Well done to all staff and students involved and thank you for everyone's efforts for making this live event come together.
