For four weeks of this term, a group of Year 7 students participated in after-school Japanese sessions, in a programme called Languages XP, run by the University of Manchester.
The sessions were conducted by undergraduate students specialised in Japanese and Oriental Studies.
Our Year 7 students enjoyed different activities based on the Japanese culture, different alphabets they use and calligraphy. They practiced basic conversation, numbers, talking about pets, animals and Japanese traditions.
The students sampled Japanese sweets, played bingo, to reinforce numbers, and enjoyed different games practicing the new vocabulary.
The sessions were very interactive, interesting and engaging. The students received certificates during the last session and enjoyed competing against each other.
It was a very positive experience for students, staff and the teachers who delivered these interesting and challenging sessions, as Japanese culture is very diverse and different.
