Wednesday 18 December 2024
On Wednesday 18 December, we visited a local church where we had the opportunity to listen to the reverend share the Christmas story and explain its meaning.
The reverend spoke about the birth of Jesus and the significance of Christmas in the Christian faith. Afterwards, we had the chance to listen to the community sing Christmas hymns. We also learned about the tradition of the Christingle. The reverend explained that the Christingle is made up of an orange representing the world, a red ribbon symbolising the love of Christ, a candle representing Jesus as the light of the world, and dried fruits or sweets representing the gifts of God.
Our teachers read out some prayers and we each lit our Christingles. As the candles flickered we thought about the light representing hope, faith and the spirit of Christmas.
