Year 2 have been actively exploring their science unit, Uses of Everyday Materials. They began by identifying various objects by describing their purpose, the materials they are made from and their properties.
As part of their investigations, pupils tested the absorbency of different materials. Each material was tested to see how much water it could soak up from a set volume, and the results were used to rank the materials from most to least absorbent.
How did we determine which material was the most absorbent? With plenty of enthusiasm (and a bit of splashing!), the pupils tested each material by seeing how much water it could absorb. They squeezed, measured and compared results like true scientists. The investigation sparked a lively whole-class discussion. Pupils shared their observations and compared their data to determine which material was the most absorbent.
The verdict? The more water they squeezed out, the more absorbent the material was! The whole activity was a fun mix of hands-on learning, teamwork and discovery - and it left the class buzzing with new knowledge!
