This half term, Year 4 immersed themselves in their History learning with a visit to the Pankhurst Centre in Manchester. This historic visit provided them with a unique opportunity to step back in time and delve into the inspiring life of Emmeline Pankhurst, right from the house where she initiated the suffragette movement.
The adventure began with a warm welcome from the knowledgeable leaders at the Pankhurst Centre. The students were instantly captivated as they explored the very rooms where Emmeline Pankhurst lived and planned her campaigns for women's rights. The children were excited to investigate various objects that offered a glimpse into the Pankhurst family's daily life and the tools used by suffragettes in their fight for equality.
One of the highlights of the trip was a hands-on activity where the students created their own campaign banners. Inspired by the courage and determination of the suffragettes, the Year 4s designed vibrant banners addressing issues they felt passionate about. This creative exercise not only allowed them to express their ideas but also to understand the power of activism and the importance of standing up for what they believe in.
The day was filled with learning, laughter and lively discussions, leaving our students with an appreciation for the history of the suffragette movement and the impact of Emmeline Pankhurst's legacy. We are incredibly grateful to the leaders at the Pankhurst Centre for their engaging and educational activities, which made the visit both informative and enjoyable.
