On Wednesday 24 May, a group of our Year 7 students undertook the Gateways visit at The University of Manchester and participated in the 'University Uncovered' programme.
This programme introduced students to university life through fun hands-on activities. Students developed their knowledge and understanding of the university teaching and learning environment and what it would be like to be a student.
Students went on a behind-the-scenes campus tour to see the Whitworth Hall, the John Owens Quadrangle, the Student’s Union, the main University Library and other university places (canteen, eating areas – outside and inside, etc).
The “University Challenge” session introduced subjects that could be studied at the university in a competitive and fun way.
In the afternoon, students watched a live play entitled “University Challenged” followed by a Questions and Answers session. Students enjoyed the day and found the experience to be fun and exciting.
One student commented, “I didn’t think university could be fun. I thought it was all studying and you had to study all the time. I am quite surprised to know how much fun university life can be.”
