For the past 3 weeks, a group of Year 7 students have participated and attended after-school Japanese sessions in a programme called Languages XP, run by the University of Manchester.
The sessions were conducted by two University of Manchester undergraduate students, specialised in Japanese and Oriental Studies.
Our students enjoyed different activities based on the Japanese culture, they learned about the different alphabets they used and calligraphy. They practiced basic conversation, numbers, taking about pets, animals and Japanese traditions. They sampled Japanese sweets and played bingo, to reinforce numbers and also enjoyed different games, practicing new vocabulary.
The lessons were very interactive, interesting and engaging. The students received certificates on the last day and enjoyed their last lesson by competing against each other.
It was a very positive experience for students, staff and the tutors who delivered interesting and challenging lessons, as Japanese culture is very diverse and different.
