On Wednesday 8 February, a group of our Year 9 students participated in the Gateways visit at The University of Manchester, along with three other schools. Our students were given a tour of the University campus, including some newly built areas. Workshop sessions gave students an opportunity to explore their own potential and improve their personal motivations, in order to succeed at both, during and after their careers. Students took part in group activities, exploring the role of a career and investigating the required transferrable skills. This helped students to realise the importance of playing to their key strengths.
The Workshops were led by postgraduate students, who helped learners explore different career areas and the skills needed to succeed in each of these areas. All the students enjoyed the day and found the activities engaging and informative.
One student commented, ”I really enjoyed the tour – I didn’t even know Benedict Cumberbatch came to this University!”
Another commented “It really made me think about my future and the skills I currently have. The main thing I realised was that I need to improve myself and keep learning new skills, as this would give me the best chance of going into many different professions.”
