A group of our Year 9 students have taken part in a challenging project this term, alongside Solutions Not Sides.
The focus was to have a critical approach to education on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The aims were to tackle anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and polarisation around the issue of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the UK.
The students embarked on a non-partisan programme, which has been formulated with the input of both Israelis and Palestinians, as well as senior members of Jewish and Muslim communities and is designed to prepare our students to make a positive, solutions-focused contribution to debates on Israel-Palestine.
On Tuesday 14 March, our students were invited to an event at FC United, using critical thinking tools, in an open and safe-space discussion with the aim of shifting attitudes away from supporting one side against the other, and towards seeking a solution for the human beings involved.
The project involved four other school in Manchester and WHGS was voted the best for ideas and solutions. The students were rewarded with free food and football tickets at one of the FC United football games.
Our students represented the school amazingly.
