Items carrying the school crest should be purchased from Monkhouse.
Please do not be tempted to buy from any other supplier as this will be old/incorrect uniform that will not be accepted as new Year 7 uniform from September 2023. For a list of your closest stores, please visit: www.monkhouse.com/our-stores.
PE Kit is ordered through a different supplier (please see separate tab for PE Kit). All other items of uniform which do not carry the school crest may be purchased from your supplier of choice.
All students must wear the following items of uniform that best fits with the gender they identify with. This will be kept under review.
Uniform List:
- School blazer with WHGS logo
- Plain white button-up shirt (to be worn with WHGS logo tie)
- Black V-neck long sleeve jumper with or without WHGS logo (no sweatshirts)
- Black formal trousers (not ‘skinny’ style) or
- Black skirt (knee length)
- Plain black tights or
- Black/grey socks
- Plain black shoes
- Headscarves worn for religious reasons should be plain and of dark colour
Coats must be plain and preferably of dark colour. Students can wear coats at all times other than in the classrooms.
NB. All clothing and equipment must be clearly marked with the owner's name.

Additional Expectations
Hair
- No extreme hair styles are allowed (this includes partially or totally shaved hair) and the school will make the final decision on what is acceptable.
Jewellery
- One pair of discreet stud earrings in the lower ear.
- One wrist watch.
- One plain ring.
- No facial, tongue or body piercings are allowed, for Health and Safety reasons.
Make Up
- No nail varnish is allowed.
- No false/acrylic nails are allowed.
- Make up should be kept to a minimum. The school will determine what is acceptable.
In our Code of Practice, which has been signed by every student and their parents/carers, it states the following:
Uniform: School uniform must be worn at all times (this includes the journey to and from school). Students will not be allowed entry into the School building without full uniform, unless they have previously obtained written permission from the Principal (eg. on faith or medical grounds). Chewing gum is not permitted.
Please make sure that when your son/daughter comes to school in September, he/she is wearing the correct full uniform, and they should also have the correct kit for PE/Games. Every student needs to be fully equipped with pens, pencils and a bag suitable for carrying textbooks.
Please note that:
- Hooded sweatshirts and baseball caps are not allowed
- Skin tight trousers and jeans are not permitted
- Headscarves worn by girls for religious reasons must be black or navy blue – coloured or patterned headscarves are not acceptable
- Hats, scarves and gloves should be of a plain, dark colour and must not be worn during or between lessons in the school buildings
- Bandanas and do-rags must not be worn
- ‘Ugg’ style suede boots must not be worn
Students who arrive at school without the correct full uniform will serve a same day detention. In extreme cases, the school reserves the right to take further reasonable action.
